Spectral
Spectral by Shannon Duffy
Release Date:   April 10th 2012
Publisher: Tribute Books
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 242
Overall: ♥♥♥♥

Convinced she’s a part of the witness protection program, sixteen-year-old Jewel Rose is shuffled around the globe with her family like a pack of traveling gypsies. After arriving at lucky home twenty-seven, she stumbles upon a mysterious boy with magical powers claiming to be her guardian . . . and warning of imminent danger. Despite the obvious sparks between them, Jewel discovers a relationship is forbidden, and the more she learns about dark, brooding Roman, she begins to question who she can even believe—the family who raised her, or the supposed sworn protector who claims they’ve been lying to her all along. As she struggles to uncover who her family has really been running from, she is forced to hide her birthmark that reveals who she is. With new realities surfacing, unexplained powers appearing, and two tempting boys vying for her heart, Jewel battles to learn who she can trust in an ever growing sea of lies, hoping she’ll make it through her seventeenth birthday alive.

My Thoughts:

Cover Talk~I've been pining for this book ever since I saw the gorgeous cover. During the course of the book we find out the The Butterfly represents something to Jewel. It all goes together well.

Okay so, let me start off by saying that I LIVE for romance in YA novels, especially forbidden romances. Besides an awesome plot, F.O.L.(full of life-in Depth) Characters, and the twists that I didn't see coming, it’s what I enjoy most about losing myself in a book, pure bliss! And Spectral has it.

The relationship between Jewel and Roman is so dangerous! But that passion and danger also makes it breathtakingly and beautiful; It definitely added more tension to the story.I held my breath with their every encounter. Duffy’s description throughout the novel is wonderful- this story had it's own special voice. Duffy did an amazing job making me feel as if I were with Jewel and her family always traveling and hiding. Jewel’s dialect was authentic. She was a very likable character. Although I tend to have issues with weakness in MC's, Jewel's weakness was also part of her strength, and she overcomes her fears in record time. I loved this girl. I see a lot of potential in Duffy, I can't wait to see what she has next. I could gush and gush and go on forever about the things I liked in this book. If you’re looking for a read to lose yourself in, with lots of romance and paranormal twits, I recommend Spectral.

Unaware she's been bound from using magic, Frey leads a small, miserable life in the village where she's sent after the death of her mother. But a tiny spark starts a fury of changes and she finds hersef running from everything she's ever known.
Hunted by council for practicing dark magic, she is certain she's been wrongfully accused. She flees, and is forced to rely on strangers for protection. But the farther she strays from home, the more her magic and forgotten memories return and she begins to suspect all is not as it seems.
My Thoughts:

I love books about the fey and especially ELVES! I've only read like barely a handful of books about elves and Wright told Frey's story spectacularly.

The story starts off in Elvin town! Frey get’s caught up in a massive identity crisis, she really doesn't know who or what she is. An incident happens, and literally a hunt begins and a super hot guy pops up...Frey senses that something just isn’t right.

One thing leads to another and we discover that Frey is no ordinary human. She's’s an elf! Her strength is put to the test, I really liked how finding out that she was an elf(IDK if she knew it yet) was empowering. In the beginning she was soft and as the story progressed she become stronger.

I loved Wright’s take on the fey lore. It was brilliant how she contrasted the somewhat darker world. I don’t know why I feel in love with the setting like I did, but it just worked so well!

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything? Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. She's stuck at JFK, late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's in seat 18C. Hadley's in 18A. Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.
My Thoughts:

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, best contemp ever! All in a span of 24 hours!

It’s really hard for me to find a good Contemporary novel that I can really get into. I have to admit, even though TSPoLaFS was slow in the beginning and took me a little time to read. It still turned out AMAZING! Just a truly fantastic story that will delight all readers.

TSPoLaFS is one of those hidden gems, you have to take a second glance. For me it wasn’t so much about the love at first sight, it was about the second chances. Hadley’s feelings toward her father… after her parents divorced, she always held it against him for leaving. Hadley finds herself in an internal conflict when she has to go to her father’s wedding. Should her still hold this grudge or forgive him? I really like the little glimpses into her past when they were her and her father were together. Childhood memories are something I really cherish and so does Hadley. Smith captures the most realistic, intimate scenes featuring Hadley’s emotions. Everything Smith wrote about Hadley and her Father tugged at my heartstrings. I love a good family oriented character, I think going on this journey helps Hadley grow, learns to give second chances and find happiness.

If you’re still not convinced to give this book a try, I have one word for you. Oliver. *Melts* he is one swoon-worthy guy who will make you hop on the next plane to London. In hope that's you meet your soulmate! The romance between Oliver and Hadley was perfect. It’s so innocent and carefree. Smith created so much tension between these two characters, and I clung to almost every encounter they had. I loved how they balanced each other, while also both seeking to discover and change. All I can say is this story is wonderful. I can’t rave enough!

“You know what they say," Dad said. "If you love something, set it free."
"What if he doesn't come back?"
"Some things do, some things don't," he said, reaching over to tweak her nose. "I'll always come back to you anyway."
"You don't light up[Lighting Bug]," Hadley pointed out, but Dad only smiled.
"I do when I'm with you.”
