Title Reveal for Causal Enchantment, #3 + Giveaway! (blog tour)

 Asylum (Causal Enchantment, #2)

Thoughts on Book 3

Thanks to Faye from Ramblings from a Teenaged Bookworm for hosting me today. It’s my last post before the last day of the Asylum tour (a vlog) and so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to talk a little bit about Book 3. As I’ve mentioned already, there will be four books in the Causal Enchantment Series. Originally, I expected this to be a trilogy. However, once I began outlining Book 3, I realized it was impossible to wrap this story up in only one more book. So, four books it will be and I’m excited to dive in.

I’m about a quarter of the way through the first draft and can’t wait to see exactly where this goes. I had the misfortune of losing my plot outline (self-inflicted pain… I got creative with my file password and then forgot what it was). Luckily, I remember the big ideas and I’m coming up with new twists every day so I don’t feel like I’ve lost too much.

So what can readers expect of the third instalment in this series? Where ANATHEMA had a lot of romance in it and ASYLUM was full of action, expect to see both romance and action compete for attention in Book 3. The characters are reunited and the situation is desperate.  Desperate enough to look for allegiances with enemy vampires and the wolves and challenge the Fates themselves. You’ll also meet another of Sofie’s causal enchantments. I can’t wait to introduce you to him - he’s exceptionally disturbing.

I will need to split the POV for a portion of the story, given where Sofie ends up. It’s a critical part of the plot - it will reveal a lot about this world and its destiny.

I can’t tell you much about Evangeline, Caden, and the others without making it spoilery for those who haven’t started the series, so I won’t say anything except that I expect it to be an intense read.

Look for it as early as November of this year. What’s it called?...

ALLEGIANCE: Causal Enchantment, #3

You heard it here first! My hubs named it and it’s perfect for the story.
Thanks to Faye for hosting me today. If you haven’t already, go grab an ecopy of Anathema for FREE right now. Asylum is only $2.99.

Also, ensure you’re signing up for the last giveaway of the Asylum tour - a print copy of Asylum!
Thanks to all for joining today. Enjoy the series!

Asylum (Causal Enchantment, #2)

Tucked away in Sofie’s wintery asylum with no hope of release for years, Evangeline must come to terms with her situation: the curse still plagues her, she’s now hunted by a two thousand-year-old vampire, and the guy she’s in love with tried to kill her. Plus, she’s locked up with a cranky Max and the Forero kids—two people everyone seems to prefer dead over alive. Things aren’t looking good. Meanwhile, back in Manhattan, Sofie struggles to keep forty trapped and bloodthirsty Ratheus vampires at bay and a desperate Viggo from killing Evangeline’s friends, all while hints stir outside the walls of the NYC vampire asylum of a war brewing between the Sentinel and the witches. Is there any hope for Evangeline and Caden? Can Sofie control the rival powers? Is the fate of Earth predestined? Find out in Book 2 of the Causal Enchantment series, a sequel to ANATHEMA.

Evangeline has spent her teenage years in obscurity. Her foster parents have the emotional aptitude of robots and her classmates barely acknowledge her existence. About to turn eighteen and feeling like a social pariah, she is desperate to connect with someone. Anyone. When Evangeline meets Sofie after literally stumbling upon her cafĂ©, she believes she’s found that connection. Willing to do anything to keep it, she accepts a job as Sofie’s assistant and drops everything to fly to Manhattan, where she is thrust into a luxurious world of Prada, diamonds, and limitless cash. With such generosity and kindness, it’s easy for Evangeline to dismiss certain oddities . . . like Sofie’s erratic and sometimes violent behavior, and the monstrous guard dogs. She’s even willing to dismiss her vivid dreams of mob-style murders, beautiful homeless people living in caves, and white-eyed demons that haunt her each night as figments of her imagination—especially when one of those figments is the gorgeous Caden. When she wakes up with bite marks on her neck, the fairy tale quickly turns into a nightmare. She slowly unravels the mystery surrounding Sofie and friends, and the reality of the bites and the “dreams.” What she discovers is far more mysterious and terrible than anything she could have imagined. In a world where everyone has motive to lie for personal gain, Evangeline must decide which deception is least likely to get her killed.

S.R. Johanne's Untraceable Playlist(Blog Tour)

Untraceable (The Nature of Grace, #1)The thrilling new debut Untraceable, Johannes shares her music playlist:

I think music is important part of my writing.

I have a very cinematic mind so when I write. I think of my book as a movie as I’m typing. I can visualize every scene and hear every song in my head as the story plays out. (See my book should be a movie – do you hear that Twilight people?? :)

Once I plot out a story and know what is happening, I pick out a different song for each chapter. One that really puts me into the setting and mood of that chapter.

For example, in Untraceable, the first scene is a chase scene in the woods. I listen to Muse’s Time is Running Out. My character’s name is Grace so when I sit down to write I always play U2s Grace. The lyrics are so perfect for my book.

Once I am in editing mode, I usually only listen to music with no words like classical or piano.

For Untraceable, I have 50 songs for 50 chapters, but here are the 12 that would be on the movie soundtrack.

  • Time is running out - Muse
  • I'm not dead - Pink
  • Grace - u2
  • Somewhere only we know - Keane
  • Lakotas Power Song - Native American
  • Meet me by the water - Rachel Yamagata
  • Looking for answers - Susan Tedeschi
  • Missing you - Jem
  • Frightened - Toby Lightman
  • Goodbye My lover - James Blunt
  • Take Me Away - Avril Lavigne
  • Left Behind - AquaLung
  • Home - Jack Johnson

Some of my favorite songs over all include:
  • Pink’s Glitter In The Air
  • Cake’s I will survive
  • Susan Tedeschi Wrapped in the arms of another
  • Kris Allen – Live like we’re dying.

I could not live without music. It expresses everything I feel. I can’t write without it. And sometimes when I’m stuck, it’s shows me the way.

My Thoughts:

Another delightful debut to add to the list!

Untraceable is one of those "can’t flip the pages fast enough novels." And the point of view chapters from Grace added that personality factor like no other YA novel I’ve read! It’s had to come by, To read a character and really know who they are. With Grace by my side I think I can survive the beautiful (and sometimes creepy) wilderness…!

I loved the relationship between Grace and MO. It’s so very obvious that they both have feelings for each other and watching their relationship progress was probably my most favorite aspect of the novel. It really balances out that whole conspiracy/danger part.

Untraceable is just an outstanding read, I can’t think of anything that I didn’t like. The writing was simplistic, easy to read and entertaining. The characters were realistic and intriguing, and I especially loved the duo of Grace and Mo. The plot was engaging… mysterious and managed to throw in a few plot twists in there I never anticipated.

Bottom line… I am a FAN!

Looking forward to seeing where Johannes takes us in the next installment.

Book Review: Destiny's Fire by Trisha Wolfe(blog tour)

Destiny's Fire
Release Date: January 10th 2012
Publisher: Omnific Publishing
Age Group: Young Adult
pages: 224
Overall: ♥♥♥♥♥

It’s the year 2040, and sixteen-year-old Dez Harkly is one of the last of her kind—part of a nearly extinct race of shape-shifters descended from guardians to the Egyptian pharaohs. Her home and her secret are threatened when the Council lowers the barrier, allowing the enemy race to enter the Shythe haven.

As the Narcolym airships approach, Dez and her friends rebel against their Council and secretly train for battle. Not only is Dez wary of war and her growing affection for her best friend Jace, but she fears the change her birthday will bring. When Dez’s newfound power rockets out of control, it’s a Narcolym who could change her fate… if she can trust him.

Dez’s guarded world crumbles when she discovers why the Narcos have really come to Haven Falls, and she's forced to choose between the race who raised her and the enemy she's feared her whole life.

My Thoughts:

Destiny’s Fire is so UNIQUE! It was amazing! And complete thrill ride! It’s one my favorite steampunk stories, set in 2040, filled with shape-shifters descended from guardians to the Egyptian pharaohs. Wolfe’s love story bit added equal parts excitement and a lot sexy-times lol. Don’t worry about the love triangle thing. I love a good love story…just as long as it’s played out well. Destiny’s relationship with Reese and Jace is gradual and a genuine building. What I’ve learned throughout this whole love triangle thing is that you go for what you want.

Dez and all the other characters are very relatable and I loved their sparring scenes to dancing in the clubs. They just play off of each other very well. Wolfe’s characters told the story; it was like everything was molded around them, this story was made for them. Wolfe does an excellent job writing such likable characters.

The plot was very dynamic. I for one haven’t really read steampunk novel(except for Cassandra Clare’s.) Destiny’s Fire was everything I could hope for in a novel(potential series?) There’s romance, action, a Strong female lead. There are some serious moments thrown in there too. For the most part I just remember having that feeling like “I have to finish this book, it’s so good (can’t look away)”during this novel. I love being invested in the characters and being excited when reading the story. I never would have expected such great things with Destiny’s Fire! It’s a MUST READ!
