Book Review: Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry

Series: (Companion) Pushing the Limits #1
Release Date: July 2012
Publisher:  Harlequin Teen
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages:  384
Overall:

"I won't tell anyone, Echo. I promise." Noah tucked a curl behind my ear. It had been so long since someone touched me like he did. Why did it have to be Noah Hutchins? His dark brown eyes shifted to my covered arms. "You didn't do that-did you? It was done to you?" No one ever asked that question. They stared. They whispered. They laughed. But they never asked. So wrong for each other...and yet so right. No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible. Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.
My Thoughts:

Pushing the Limits definitely WENT there for me. I cried, awed, and seemed to found redemption right along with the characters!

I have not found any YA contemporary like Simone Elkles or Stephanie Perskin. PtL might not have been as fluffy as Anna or Lola but the Romance(sexytimes) was there and so was the drama. There was so much tension between Noah and Echo. With each changing of the POV I had gotten totally invested in each of their personal stories—full of heart break. I’m glad that with Noah and Echo as a couple they didn't feed off each other, they built off each other. In the end it benefited them, they became so much more wise and stronger than ever.

If you’re a fan of Simone Elkeles and Laruen Barnholdts guy girl chapter POV’s, you’re sure going to enjoy this one. I immediately fall in love with the writing and flow/tone. It was like watching an episode of Degrassi(the good old ones!)

My one and ONLY complaint is…Noah you’re a tough guy, some of the things you said to Echo were a bit too…fluffy and it just didn't quite fit your style.” Baby, babe” it’s cute but it gets totally wore out. I still love you though!(lol)

For me this type of book only comes out…like rarely. PtL is my type of book, the guilty pleasure. It’s pretty hard to find. I’m so glad if found a new fave YA contemporary author!

  16. I hardly drop comments, however after reading some of the comments on this page "Book Review: Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry".
I do have 2 questions for you if it's okay. Could it be simply me or does it seem like some of the remarks appear as if they are written by brain dead visitors? :-P And, if you are posting on additional places, I would like to follow everything new you have to post. Would you post a list of the complete urls of your shared sites like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?

  27. Hey, I love your blog! You seem into the same books that are still reeling in my head. I'm in desperate need for a new cool book, I'm from South Africa so I have to ORDER everything. Any suggestions? Have you guys read Sweet Evil book by Wendy Higgens? Is it any good? I read PTL and I have to agree he started getting a little too mushy for my taste (puts a dent in the bad-boy image) but I still adored the book. and Noah! Anyhow, Thanks! :)x PS can't wait for Beth's story! DARE YOU TOO. ALREADY SIGHING!
