Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything? Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. She's stuck at JFK, late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's in seat 18C. Hadley's in 18A. Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.
My Thoughts:
The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, best contemp ever! All in a span of 24 hours!
It’s really hard for me to find a good Contemporary novel that I can really get into. I have to admit, even though TSPoLaFS was slow in the beginning and took me a little time to read. It still turned out AMAZING! Just a truly fantastic story that will delight all readers.
TSPoLaFS is one of those hidden gems, you have to take a second glance. For me it wasn’t so much about the love at first sight, it was about the second chances. Hadley’s feelings toward her father… after her parents divorced, she always held it against him for leaving. Hadley finds herself in an internal conflict when she has to go to her father’s wedding. Should her still hold this grudge or forgive him? I really like the little glimpses into her past when they were her and her father were together. Childhood memories are something I really cherish and so does Hadley. Smith captures the most realistic, intimate scenes featuring Hadley’s emotions. Everything Smith wrote about Hadley and her Father tugged at my heartstrings. I love a good family oriented character, I think going on this journey helps Hadley grow, learns to give second chances and find happiness.
If you’re still not convinced to give this book a try, I have one word for you. Oliver. *Melts* he is one swoon-worthy guy who will make you hop on the next plane to London. In hope that's you meet your soulmate! The romance between Oliver and Hadley was perfect. It’s so innocent and carefree. Smith created so much tension between these two characters, and I clung to almost every encounter they had. I loved how they balanced each other, while also both seeking to discover and change. All I can say is this story is wonderful. I can’t rave enough!

“You know what they say," Dad said. "If you love something, set it free."
"What if he doesn't come back?"
"Some things do, some things don't," he said, reaching over to tweak her nose. "I'll always come back to you anyway."
"You don't light up[Lighting Bug]," Hadley pointed out, but Dad only smiled.
"I do when I'm with you.”

ReplyDeleteExactly! a wonderfully written story. I can't wait for Jen's next book.
DeleteJust read it. Loved it =)
ReplyDeleteI still need to read this one! It sounds like such a cute contemporary. Plus Oliver sounds TOTALLY swoon worthy! :D
ReplyDeletetotally! Oliver is just...oh la la lol
DeleteHmm, I like the sound of Oliver ;)
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely look for this one next time I'm at the library! Great review :D
I love how this book sounds. I remember my parents divorce...I felt like it was the end of the world. I didn't want separate rooms, x-mas etc. but then I realised everyone needs to have happiness. Can't wait to dive into this book!
ReplyDeleteDivorce can be...crazy. But I thiunk the most important part is that like you said everybody needs to be loved and find happiness in some way. Thanks for sharing your story! I hope you like TSPoL@FS! ;)
DeleteWonderful review! You don't find many YA books about divorce, which is why when I first discovered Stat. Prob, I borrowed it from my local library. My teen librarian said it was so good I had to read it, which I did, and I ended up loving Hadley and Oliver.
ReplyDeletethanks! Family oriented characters are my faves. I've found from my reading expo. it's mostly in Contemp novels.
DeleteI love this book! Hadley & Her Father are one of my favorite characters ever. Their father-Daughter relationship was sucha tearjerker! Great review :)
ReplyDeleteNo!I teared up over all the father-daughter bits! they were so genuine
DeleteI think that some YA novels are most definitely missing out the family element. In some of the YA books I've read. I doesn't even mention the protagonist's family. It goes straight into OHMYGUSH boy a hot buy! lol
ReplyDeleteI find that in most of my paranormal reads. I'm not really bothered by it but I would love to see that change. I've found some really good Family Oriented paranorms/dystopian: Demons @ Deadnight, Divergent to name a few
DeleteI'm on a contemp kick right now. Thinking about bumping this one up in my TBR?
ReplyDeleteOh yes! make SPoL@FS your next read!
DeleteAh, I'm dying to read this! Hoping I'll have enough money to buy it for my birthday. Thanks for sharing the lovely review! It makes me even more excited to get my hands on it. :)
ReplyDeleteBest contemp ever? Wow! Okay, I'm so gonna have to read this! I absolutely love the idea of this book and I've been wanting to read more contemp!
ReplyDeleteI really liked this book too! It was such a cute book, and I totally agree about Oliver. ;) Even though it was a little slow to start off with, I enjoyed it, and I'm glad that you did too! Awesome review. =)

I really want to read this.. and stat! I definitely believe in love at first sight. I met my husband at 15 and was crazy about him right away. Though we didn't go out on a date until 8 years later! (But I knew he was the one, then!) :) Can't wait to read this YA book on love at first sight. :)
ReplyDeleteNice review! Here's mine if you don't mind: http://lorxiebookreviews.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-statistical-probability-of-love-at.html
