Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) Series: Lunar Chronicles #1
Release Date:  January 3rd 2012
Publisher: Feiwel &Friends
Age Group: Young Adult

Overall:

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

In this thrilling debut young adult novel, the first of a quartet, Marissa Meyer introduces readers to an unforgettable heroine and a masterfully crafted new world that’s enthralling.

My Thoughts:

Cinder! What an awesome book to start off in the New Year.

Where to begin…I don’t know, the only way I can describe this book is to just compare it to a bomb…well just the “BAM” part where everything is happening and unraveling, as the end comes to a close the “bomb” goes off and you’re like “WOW that was so brilliant.” Everything was executed well, the writing, the characters, pacing. It was just awesome! Something I’ve never read before, I can tell you that!

Cinder an unlikely heroine waiting to tell her story through the pages. She has everything against her she’s cyborg. She gets treated like a “red head stepchild” (which sticks to the Cinderella story, pretty darn good.) But she also has a past, one she doesn’t quite know of…yet. I predicted that she was…someone really valuable and that someone who could sometime in the future change New Beijing from an upcoming war with the Lunars. Knowing that, it made me root for her more. The exciting part this that Cinder has so much more to give! It’s just the beginning for her.

Prince Kai, the smart, young, kind emperor. He’s main goal is to keep his citizens safe. After his father passes away from the plague, He’s left with a pretty big plate. Stuck in a situation with a power hungry-war crazed lunar Queen down his throat to become empress. Faced with some tough decisions, He handles them well. I’m rooting for him too! I hope in the next book that flame/bond Kai felt for Cinder can be rekindled.

Oh and Dr. Erland, the secondary character. I HAVE to mention him because I adore him; he is like a father figure to Cinder. He encourages her and brings out the best in her really.
Meyer draws a pretty clear line with good vs. evil in a futuristic setting. I can deal with the mean step mother/sister but Queen Levana is pure evil! lol #TeamCinder! FTW

Cinder
has a bit of everything for everyone Sci-Fi, Steam Punk, Fantasy. This has to be one of the best debuts so far in 2012!

  1. I really liked Prince Kai too-he was so brave stepping up to his responsibilities and facing Queen Levana, who I would have to say is one of the better villains I've read. She has a real sense of menace, a ton of power, and will probably be unleashing all sorts of awful schemes in the next book and on.

    1. Yes, the character development was awesome. Queen Levana is a pretty good villain, who kind forces makes Cinder and Kai to make these brave responsibilities. that's why I really like her as a villain!
