Character Tweets from Touch of Frost by Jennifer Estep(blog tour)

Hey my lovely readers! So I just finished Tough of Frost, I'll have my review up soon.  Jennifer your a goddess ;) Hopefully I won't be too fan girl in my review because I really, really enjoyed it and *ahem* hot Spartan Logan.

Greetings and salutations! First of all, I want to thank Faye for having me on the blog today. Thanks so much, Faye!

So today, Faye asked me to write a post about what one of my characters’ Twitter accounts might look like. So I thought I would focus on Gwen Frost, the heroine of my Mythos Academy young adult urban fantasy series. Gwen is a 17-year-old Gypsy girl who has the gift of psy chom e try, or the abil ity to know an object’s his tory just by touch ing it. After a seri ous freak-out with her magic, Gwen is shipped off to Mythos Acad emy, a school for the descen dants of ancient war riors like Spar tans, Valkyries, Ama zons, and more.

So here are some of the things that Gwen would tweet about during a normal day at Mythos Academy:

Up early to go to my first class of the day, English lit. Would it kill the prof to let us read something fun like comic books?

Feeling a little more awake as I walk across the campus quad. Oh, there's @LoganQuinn, that cute Spartan guy ...

And of course Logan doesn't notice me at all. Sigh. I don't know why I'm so obsessed with the Spartan. Must be because he saved my life.

Sitting in calculus now. Sooo boring. When am I ever going to use this stuff?

Up next is geography and world politics. Interesting enough I guess, although politics seems like a total scam to me.

Lunch time. Sitting by myself again in the back of the dining hall, watching the Valkyrie princesses like @JasmineAshton and @DaphneCruz.

Bad enough I have to eat alone. But what is up with liver, veal, escargot, and all the other froufrou food that the dining hall serves?

Wish I had a piece of my @GrandmaFrost's homemade chocolate fudge right now. Sigh ...

Sitting in chemistry class. Trying to stay awake. Not having much luck.

In gym class, trying to learn how to fight with a sword. I am so not coordinated. @TaliaPizarro, my sparring partner, is going to kill me.

@LoganQuinn of course is the best fighter in the gym thanks to his freaky Spartan warrior genes.

Time for my last class, myth-history with @ProfessorMetis. Reapers of Chaos? Seriously? I so do not believe all this magic mumbo jumbo.

Sneaking off campus to go see my @Grandma Frost who lives nearby. Chocolate fudge, here I come!

Now I have to hustle to get over to the Library of Antiquities to work my shift. If I'm late, @Nickamedes will lecture me. Again.

Done with my shift at the library. Time to walk to my dorm, take a shower, go to bed, and do the same thing again tomorrow. Oh, goodie …

So there you have it. Some of the things that Gwen would tweet about during a typical day at Mythos Academy.

What about you guys? What do you like to tweet about?

Jennifer Estep writes the Mythos Acad emy young adult urban fan tasy series for Kens ing ton. Touch of Frost, the first book in the series, was published on July 26.  Touch of Frost (Mythos Academy, #1)

My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy — a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody's head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest.
But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I'm determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why—especially since I should have been the one who died. . .

Into the Past with S. M. Reine(author of Six Moon Summer) blog tour

S. M. Reine favorite books at ages 5, 11, 15 and 19

It’s not fair to ask me about favorite books. For one thing, I could never, ever pick-- bringing up the very subject brings cascades of gorgeous book covers and wonderful memories to mind, and selecting one of them out of the rest is like asking which molecule of that chocolate-covered cherry is the best.

Of course, looking back on my distant (cough) youth, a few books do emerge from the haze. When I was five years old, my favorite book might have been The Cat in the Hat. It was my number one “again! let’s read it again!” book that made my mom roll her eyes, and we can both recite the entire thing without even looking at it. (“The sun did not shine, it was too wet to play, so we sat in the house on that cold, cold wet day...”)

My tastes in books changed pretty drastically by the time I was eleven years old. I had moved on from picture books, as one would hope any middle school child would, and decided that I could read any books my eldest sister could read. Since she’s five years older than me, it’s arguable that her reading level might have been a little higher than mine when I was eleven. It didn’t stop me from picking up The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan and chewing through it in a week, nor did it stop me from reading the rest of the series after that. It did make me think that women tugged on their braids when they got frustrated, or that “wool-head” was a perfectly good insult (and I got a few looks for that), but I think reading epic-length high fantasy at that tender age was good for me. This was also at the crux of my Sailor Moon phase. Let’s not talk about that.

You could say I reverted a bit by the time I hit fifteen. Instead of reading epic fantasy, I was reading contemporary fantasy. I went through a rabid Harry Potter phase-- but didn’t we all? I was convinced I was destined to grow up to be Mrs. Remus Lupin. I recall writing really embarrassing fanfic with Mary Sues at this age. Yeah, I know. Of the series at the time, my favorite was The Prisoner of Azkaban due to its high Professor-Lupin-to-page ratio, although I think I like the fifth one best now. (And I will never forgive Tonks for taking my man.)

When I was nineteen, I had naturally proceeded to grittier books. This is where it gets really tough for me to pick. I’m going to have to say that Carrie rekindled my love for all things Stephen King at this age, since I’d previously only read The Shining and The Dark Half. I’ve since been trying to read most of his back list, but he’s written a ton of books. Many of them are weightier than even The Wheel of Time series. I have a feeling I will still be trying to read them all when I retire in three or four years. (Kidding, kidding. I’m not that old.)

Books are all so special and wonderful. I feel guilty elevating any one above the rest. For instance, part of me thinks I need to plug Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel series, or go on another Christopher Pike tangent, or wax poetic about Tamora Pierce. But I won’t. I could write an epic length book about books!

She's changing. And now she has three months to find a cure before becoming a werewolf... forever. Rylie Gresham hates everything about summer camp: the food, the fresh air, the dumb activities, and the other girls in her cabin. But the worst part is probably being bitten by a werewolf. Being a teenager is hard enough, but now she's craving raw flesh and struggles with uncontrollable anger. If she doesn't figure out a way to stop the transformation, then at the end of summer, her life is worse than over. She'll be a monster.

Book Review: The Water Wars by Cameron Stracher

The Water WarsThe Water Wars by Cameron Stracher
Release Date: January 1st 2011
Publisher: SourceBooks Fire
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages:  240
Overall: ½
Would you risk everything for someone you just met?
What if he had a secret worth killing for?

Welcome to a future where water is more precious than oil or gold...

Hundreds of millions of people have already died, and millions more will soon fall—victims of disease, hunger, and dehydration. It is a time of drought and war. The rivers have dried up, the polar caps have melted, and drinkable water is now in the hands of the powerful few. There are fines for wasting it and prison sentences for exceeding the quotas.

But Kai didn’t seem to care about any of this. He stood in the open road drinking water from a plastic cup, then spilled the remaining drops into the dirt. He didn’t go to school, and he traveled with armed guards. Kai claimed he knew a secret—something the government is keeping from us...

And then he was gone. Vanished in the middle of the night. Was he kidnapped? Did he flee? Is he alive or dead? There are no clues, only questions. And no one can guess the lengths to which they will go to keep him silent. We have to find him—and the truth—before it is too late for all of us.
My Boo
 My Thoughts:

The Water Wars… loved the concept where water is more precious than gold or oil-and worth killing forbut it in the end, it fell flat for me.

Throughout the whole book Vera goes to GREAT lengths to find her new friend (and possible love interest) Kai. He is a big part of finding water, but I just wished they had more going for them. The characters are one of the strong points of this book. Vera is very determined, brave and an all-around good person. Her brother Will is level headed, strong and a leader at heart, I fell for that guy. As for Kai, I feel like I need to get to know him more, other than being the “privileged” driller’s son( but he was kidnapped from he very beginning, so I have to get him some credit). From what I know about him so far, he's smart and maybe even a rebel. In the beginning, He pours a cup water on the ground like “eh, there’s more where that came from.” There also something very vulnerable about him, he has diabetes, I didn’t expect that, he seems like such a brooding character. I like that fact about him, it makes him more real. The characters are great, the fact that they risked so much to recue each other shows honorable character and loyalty.

Stracher’s writing is vivid and imaginative. This dystopian overflows with danger, excitement and did I mention PIRATES! One’s that Jack Sparrow would be proud of! I look forward to reading more adventure’s with Vera and the gang. Well worth a try :)

Interview with Mari Mancusi( author of the Blood Coven series)Blog Tour

, author of Blood Ties, book 6 in the Blood Coven series. Mari is answering some fun Q&A with book lines. Check it out!

Blood Ties (Blood Coven, #6)
You’ve said that you use to wish you could become a vampire back in high school(like Rayne) What do you like most about (fascinates you most about) vampires?

"Are you kidding me? Why would I want immortal life? Why would I want richest beyond the wildest imagination? Why would I want ultimate power over mere mortals? You should be asking why anyone on earth wouldn't want to be a vampire." (Rayne, Boys that Bite)

In a previous interview you said you’re more like Rayne, if you could meet her what do think she would say to you?

"We'll have long talks and share laughs about pathetic mortals and their silly ways and maybe [you'll] even let me borrow some of your clothes.

After everything that’s happened in Night School what can we expect in Blood Ties?
"Mom's off ruling Fairyland. We just buried our father, may he rest in peace. My sister's going through a twelve-step program at a vampire rehab, trying to get control over her whole blood lust thing. And an evil fringe group of Slayer Inc. (that calls themselves the Alphas) is determined to create vampire fae hybrids in a bid to take over the world. And as for me? I've just enrolled in Las Vegas High School, which seems the normal thing to do. We'll see how long that lasts..." (Sunny, Blood Ties)

The final battle between Vampires and Slayers is near, do you think Sunny, Rayne, and the blood coven are ready?
"We're in Code Red right now, in case you forgot. The Alphas are readying for battle. And we have no idea what they have in store for us. We need all our top doctors and scientists working on ways to stop them from creating an army of vampiric fairies." (Magnus, Blood Ties)

So Sunny is back with Magnus and then there's Jayden...OMG these guys are both equally great guys,  “true war is being fought over her heart”, in what ways do you think they are good for Sunny?

Mari Mancusi"[Magnus is] everything I ever wanted in a boyfriend. He's sweet and loyal and nice and funny and oh-so-handsome. He did everything in his power to assist me on my quest to regain my humanity, even though it was against his best interests." (Sunny - Boys that Bite)
"With Jayden, I never have to doubt his motives. I never have to wonder if he's lying to me. He's simple and open and pure and good and everything I ever dreamed about in a boyfriend. And he loves me. With all his heart. He's already proven he'd die for me. And there's no conflict or coven to get in his way." (Sunny - Blood Ties)

If you could make your own Blood Coven inspired t-shirt what would it say?

"The "Bite Me" shirt. It'll be my standard response to anyone who tries to hit on me. Someone can just come up and be like 'Hey babe, what your sign' and I'll just point to my shirt." (Sunny - Boys that Bite)

If you were to go out to your local Goth hangout, like Club Fang, what's the one thing you wouldn’t leave the house without?

"One does not enter a vampire den unprepared and so I make a special effort to Goth things up even more than usual. I've got on this black, lacy corset top under my leather jacket, a black vinyl miniskirt, and knee-high platform boots." (Rayne, Stake That)
