Bloodspell (Bloodspell #1)Bloodspell by Amalie Howard

Age Group: Young Adult
Pages:  394
Series: Bloodspell #1
Overall:
The spell was simple...

Cruentus Protectum (Defend the Blood)

But what do you do if your blood is your enemy?

Victoria Warrick has always known she was different. An outcast at school, she is no stranger to adversity. But when she receives an old journal for her seventeenth birthday, nothing prepares her for the dark secrets it holds -- much less one that reveals she's a witch with unimaginable power.

What's more, when she meets the dazzling but enigmatic Christian Devereux, she has no idea how much her life is about to change. Enemies will hunt her. Friends will turn on her. The terrible curse that makes her blood run black will stop at nothing to control her. And Christian has a sinister secret of his own...
Without knowing whom to trust, can Victoria survive her blood's deadly desires? Or will she lose everything, including herself?

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book. It's  a dark and sexy paranormal romance set with a quite unique storyline...Honestly I have to say I haven’t read a book where the vampire falls in love with a witch...or maybe I just don’t remember (any recs?)

At first I didn’t fully connect with Victoria “Tori”, But all my worries went away as Howard starts building this world and the developing the characters, I enjoyed how throughout the book Tori grows more confident and strong, coming into her powers and really just embracing the magic. Her relationship with
Christian isn’t rush, It slowly progresses. I’ll always be a sucker for forbidden/star cross love. All I can say is, boy did Howard keep the tension up! lol

Bloodspell will leave you craving for more. Some bits might be a little confusing but other then that. The plot is totally original, full of action, not your typical vamp and witch read. Howard blends together mythology, drawing from the darker side of these creatures beautifully. A fantastic debut! I could definitely see this book as the next rave for TV shows(especially for TVD fan’s)
