Can you tell us why you chose the title Marked (Soul Guardians), and how it
correlates with your Kara’s story?
correlates with your Kara’s story?
The title was called Phantom Soldiers when I first starting writing the story. I thought it was a pretty cool title until my editor suggested that I change it. He suggested a few titles, but I didn’t feel they worked with my book, or with Kara. A had a few titles floating in my head, but Marked just sounded better. It made sense. In the story, Kara gets Marked by demons, which causes David and the Legion to mistrust her, an important part of the plot. And since I knew I wanted it to be a trilogy, I had to choose a name for the series. Given that it’s the guardian angel’s duty to protect the mortal souls, Soul Guardians was a perfect fit.
Why fallen angels and why now?
The fallen angels I have in Marked are the demons. The book is more about guardian angels, and keeping the mortals safe, than the fallen. What could be considered as "fallen" would be the feelings that Kara and David share in a world where romance is strickly forbiden.
Is there any certain person who instilled the passion for reading and writing in you? A family member or a teacher maybe?

Mr. Patterson, my fifth grade teacher. He introduced me to Tolkien’s The Hobbit. I devoured the book, and read it many times. After reading The Lord of the Rings, I decided to attack my school’s library with all the fantasy books I could get my hands on. My love of books took off. And the writing part naturally came after.
What books are in your summer reading pile?
What books are in your summer reading pile?
The city of fallen angels and Clockwork Angel, by Cassandra Clare. American Gods and Neverwhere, by Neil Gaiman. And probably His Dark Materials, by Philip Pullman – which I read again every other month.
What can readers expect to see in ELEMETAL ?
Answers to questions from Marked, that I don’t want to mention for fear of revealing too much of the plot. I’m introducing fun new characters, a peek into the demon’s realm, more of the forbidden romance between Kara and David of course, and loads of action and adventure.
