Book Review: Dream Life

Dream Life by Lauren Mechling: Book CoverTitle: Dream Life
Author: Lauren Mechling
Pub. Date: January 2010
Publisher: Random House Children's Books
Format: Hardcover, 336pp
Age Range: Young Adult
ISBN-13: 9780385735230
ISBN: 0385735235

Claire Voyante's first semester at Henry Hudson High School was eventful, to say the least. As she heads into her second semester, things are calming down a bit. But Claire has a few secrets that are getting harder to keep. Her biggest secret of all? The onyx and ivory cameo necklace her grandmother gave her for her 15th birthday. Ever since she started wearing it, her dreams have been coming to her in black and white and turning out to be oddly prophetic.

Becca’s been hanging out with her old prep school friends and never seems to have time for Claire anymore. And soon, Claire discovers why—there’s a secret group of society girls with a mysterious identity. And, turns out, a mysterious enemy who’s out to get them. The second she sniffs out trouble, Claire jumps on the case. But is it someone close to Claire who’s in danger again—or could it be Claire herself whose life is at stake?

My Thoughts:

Dream Life is a great follow-up to Dream Girl. New adventures, characters and more craziness.Light mystery novel, I loved that is was just all about mystery.Claire's still a "normal" teen, dealing with teen issues . I enjoyed this one a lot more.

I've always loved the Characters. Claire is not your average teen/ heroine: she’s smart, fun, and her character will leave us with smiling and wondering 'hey, why didn't i think of that".Her friends are just as supporting and are more than just "sidekicks" I enjoyed the new characters as well. But none of them could replaced my favorite characters Claire, Becca, and Andy. They are the icing on the cake.

Lauren blends the mystery element with relate-able characters to more adventure, romance, and soo much more. Dream Life was an easy, entertaining, lighthearted read.

Rules of AttractionRules of Attraction
by Simone Elkeles

New sparks will fly in the sequel to Simone Elkeles’s breakout book Perfect Chemistry

When Carlos Fuentes returns to America after living in Mexico for a year, he doesn’t want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid out for him at a high school in Colorado. Carlos likes living his life on the edge and wants to carve his own path—just like Alex did. Then he meets Kiara Westford. She doesn’t talk much and is completely intimidated by Carlos’ wild ways. As they get to know one another, Carlos assumes Kiara thinks she’s too good for him, and refuses to admit that she might be getting to him. But he soon realizes that being himself is exactly what Kiara needs right now.

With new characters to fall in love with and the same hot romance found in Perfect Chemistry, Simone Elkeles has crafted another sure-fire hit for teens

My Thoughts: Duh, it's Simone Elkeles! Love her books.Seriously, if you haven't read Perfect Chemistry and Leaving Paradise. I HIGHLY recommend you do.Can't wait 2 read this one!

Who Knew An Angel Could Get A Girl In So Much Devilish Trouble?

Jackie Brighton woke up in a Dumpster this morning, and her day has only gotten weirder. Her familiar B-cups have somehow become double Ds, her sex drive is insatiable, and apparently she had her first one-night stand ever...with a fallen angel. All she remembers is gorgeous Noah's oddly hypnotic blue eyes...and then a dark stranger whose bite transformed her into an immortal siren with a sexy Itch. With help from Noah, Jackie begins to adapt to her new lifestyle — until she accidentally sends Noah into the deadly clutches of the vampire queen and lands herself in a fierce battle for an ancient halo with the queen's wickedly hot righthand man. Who just happens to be the vampire who originally bit her. How's a girl supposed to save the world when the enemy's so hard to resist?

My Thoughts:

Wow...yeah i really loved this book(he he)  Gentlemen Prefer Succubi is fun, hilarious, and ahem...HOT.
It's a great new take on paranormal romance.

I was hook from the first page. The pace was fast and enjoyable. Now i have to wait for the next book Succubi Like it Hot*sad* the plot was awesome, it was adventures and entertaining.  Myles has created a really fun world with vampires and angels, lots of smut and funny lines.

The characters were all interesting and fun. Jackie- smart and quick witty,i didn't always like her, she went from "nerdy" to hot big booby/desirable succubi. I wanted to know her past more. She definitely has the potential to be a heroine I like. I just want to get to know her a little better. That's pretty much the only issue i had. Moving one to the HOT lads. The love triangle that forms in this book*hot* Two men in Jackie's new life – Noah and Zane. Noah, the fallen angel, is her steady rock. Zane, the bad boy vampire. do i need to say that their totally hot and i now love them lol.

Overall, i really loved this book(not just the hot guys lol) I would definitely recommend Gena Showalter , Kresley Cole, and Jeaniene Frost fans to read this one!

Waiting on Wednesday(25)

Hex Hall (Hex Hall, Book 1) Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins

When Sophie Mercer turned thirteen, she discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-Gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary.  But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hecate Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward prodigium, a.k.a. witches, fae, and shapeshifters. By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard. Three powerful enemies who look like supermodels; a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock; a creepy, tag-along ghost; and a new roommate, who happens to be the most-hated person and only vampire on campus. Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her friend Jenna is the number one suspect.  Meanwhile, Sophie has a more personal shock to grapple with. Not only is her father the head of the prodigium council, he's the most powerful warlock in the world, and Sophie is his heir. As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all prodigium, especially her.

My thoughts: This one sounds really good, definitely my kind of book. It kind of reminds me of a t.v. series i use to watch, i can't remember what it was called my the witches had like a British accent(never mind lol)

Guardian of the Dead Guardian of the Dead

by Karen Healey

In less than a day I had been harassed, enchanted, shouted at, cried on, and clawed. I’d been cold, scared, dirty, exhausted, hungry, and miserable. And up until now, I’d been mildly impressed with my ability to cope.

At her boarding school in New Zealand, Ellie Spencer is like any ordinary teen: she hangs out with her best friend, Kevin; obsesses over her crush on a mysterious boy; and her biggest worry is her paper deadline. Then everything changes: In the foggy woods near the school, something ancient and deadly is waiting.

Karen Healey introduces a savvy and spirited heroine with a strong, fresh voice. Full of deliciously creepy details, this adventure is a deftly crafted story of Māori mythology, romance, betrayal, and war.

My Thoughts: the cover is creepy it reminds me that horror movie that had an evil tooth "fairy" in it*that movie freaks me out* hehe...yeah*i'm not scared, where's my night light lol*.It does sound really good though.

Book Review: Dream Girl

Dream Girl by Lauren Mechling: Book CoverTitle: Dream Girl
Author: Lauren Mechling

Pub. Date: July 2008
Publisher: Random House Children's Books
Format: Hardcover, 256pp
Age Range: Young Adult
ISBN-13: 9780385735216
ISBN: 0385735219
From: Author

CLAIRE VOYANTE HAS been having strange visions ever since she can remember. But the similarity between her name and her talents is purely coincidental. The name is French, and unlike the psychics on TV, she can’t solve crimes or talk to the dead. Whenever Claire follows her hunches, she comes up empty—or ends up in pretty awkward situations.
But that all changes on Claire’s 15th birthday, when her grandmother, Kiki—former socialite, fashion icon, and permanent fixture at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel—gives her something a little more extraordinary than one of her old cocktail dresses: a strange black-and-white onyx cameo on a gold chain. It’s not long before Claire’s world becomes a whole lot clearer. And a whole lot more dangerous.

My Thoughts:

DREAM GIRL is witty, entertaining, and just a cute/light read.Although it took me a few chapters to get into. It was good considering i usually don't read this genre.

The characters were likable and you know Claire was just a normal teen who just happens to have a psychic ability that can help solve a international crime. But besides that she is had a strong voice, you really get a sense of who she is as you read. Kiki, is Claire's grandma, she is one of those outspoken characters, has a lot of confident. She was one of my favorite characters.Mechling really made the characters come to life.Giving them depth, keeping things interesting, and fun.

They story was kind of slow yet fast(if that makes any sense) Like in the first few chapters, it was slow. Toward the end things picked up like the mystery and suspense. Sometimes the dream parts were a little confusing, along with some of the french words. But i knew some of the french words! lol.I suck at foreign languages. But other then that overall, the writing was good and i really like the characters. This book is more on the light side. but still enjoyable.

Book Review: Captivate

Captivate by Carrie Jones: Book CoverTitle: Captivate(Need #2)
Author: Carrie Jones
Pub. Date: January 2010
Publisher: Bloomsbury USA
Format: Hardcover, 288pp
Age: Young adult
ISBN-13: 9781599903422
ISBN: 1599903423
From: Publisher

Zara and her friends knew they hadn't solved the pixie problem for good. Far from it. The king's needs grow deeper every day he's stuck in captivity, while his control over his people gets weaker. It's made him vulnerable. And now there's a new king in town.

A turf war is imminent, since the new pixie king, Astley, is moving in quickly. Nick nearly killed him in the woods on day one, but Zara came to his rescue. Astley swears that he and Zara are destined to be together, that he's one of the good guys. Nick isn't buying it, though Zara isn't as sure -- despite herself, she wants to trust the new king. But it's a lot more than her relationship with Nick that is at stake. It's her life -- and his.

My Thoughts:

Captivate was such an AMAZING book. After Need, i was like there has to be a second book. Carrie Jones is an awesome author. Her writing really shows it. She captures you and you can't help but stay up late and just get lost in the book.

So Captivate picks up where Need left off. But In Captivate things get a little bit... intense.I've gotten to know the characters more in this book. Zara is an awesome, she has has grow. Nick is just the protector of things, he has his secrets. New characters are introduced and the world of the Fae. There might be a like bit of a love triangle involving the new character Astley(his name means star...how cute) I find him and Nick to be kind of similar, they are both sweet, macho*nick too macho*, and they have their secrets. But Nick....he means while, but sometimes he was annoying. To be honest i like Astley more, he not as smothering as Nick is, or controlling.Devyn and Issie are all around the best friends you could have and cute together. The Character are strong, brave, and caring. I mean can you imagine Zara with a sword?!?

Captivate has alot of twist and turns, let me just say  "things are about to hit the fan". I was sad at how things ended in Captivate but i'm happy theres going to be a third book!*anxious* So if you haven't read Need, you must!

Jekel Loves HydeJekel Loves Hyde

by Beth Fantaskey

Jill Jekel has always obeyed her parents’ rules – especially the one about never opening the mysterious, old box in her father’s office. But when her dad is murdered, and her college savings disappear, she's tempted to peek inside, as the contents might be key to a lucrative chemistry scholarship.

To better her odds, Jill enlists the help of gorgeous, brooding Tristen Hyde, who has his own dark secrets locked away. As the team of Jekel and Hyde, they recreate experiments based on the classic novel, hoping not only to win a prize, but to save Tristen’s sanity. Maybe his life. But Jill’s accidental taste of a formula unleashes her darkest nature and compels her to risk everything – even Tristen’s love – just for the thrill of being… bad.

My Thoughts: How isn't WoWing/drooling/go zombie for this book?!? I just WANT IT!!!
