The Thirteenth Chime (Sense of Truth, #1)
The Thirteenth Chime by Emma Michaels
No one knew of its existence until it was removed from the attic upstairs.

In a beautiful house that overlooks the sea, an antique clock has the power to change the course of their lives.

The power the clock resonates will not only force Destiny and ex-boyfriend David on a journey into the depths of one man's mind long dead, but into the mind of a man filled with hatred and bent on revenge.

With the only clues to the nature of the clock having disappeared into the sea, Destiny and David must retrace the steps the man had taken into the darkness, before they fall prey to the trap he had set in motion over half a century ago.

Hatred never dies.

How The Thirteenth Chime Came to Be!

I'm often asked how the idea for “The Thirteenth Chime” came to me. "The Thirteenth Chime" was inspired by a series of events that happened to me. The first was a storm that knocked out the power where I live and we went to the neighbors to share a few candles. The storm raged outside and the wind howled against the sides of the house. Then, suddenly, the storm went quiet for a moment, and the antique grandfather clock in the house began to chime. The sound echoed throughout the house and made my heart leap to my throat, and I unconsciously reached out for the hand of someone else to feel a bond. It was in that moment that the original inspiration for "The Thirteenth Chime" was born.

I didn't originally intend for the story to be a YA paranormal. This happened naturally as the story evolved by itself - I was just along for the ride. I spent almost two years doing the research for the series before I was satisfied. I interviewed quite a few people, I went to Steilacoom and studied the area and I learned as much as I could about the island just off its coast. Once I began writing, there was no stopping me or the flow of the story.

I remember when I finished the first draft and how nervous I was when I gave it to someone to read. I had no idea what to expect. I've been working as a freelance writer for years and I've done several ghost novels, but even all of that did not prepare me for the anxiety of that first reading. Fortunately, the person who read it couldn't put it down and I was very happy to see that they loved it.

Another question I'm often asked by people who have read ARCs (advanced reading copies) is "does the story end there or is there more"? "The Thirteenth Chime" is the first novel of "A Sense of Truth". It is my hope that if potential fans really love the first book, that they will want to read more. I have ideas already running through my head and I think fans of the series are really going to love what happens next. So if you want more, please support the series and I promise I will write more as there is a lot more to write!

Thank you so much and I hope you enjoy reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it!
