Book Review: Never Cry Werewolf

Never Cry WerewolfTitle: Never Cry Werewolf
Author: Heather Davis
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
Pub. Date: September 01, 2009
ISBN-13: 9780061349232
Age Range: 12

Moonlight has special powers....

Shelby’s summer plans go totally awry when her horrible stepmother sends her off to “brat camp” as punishment for one too many broken curfews. Camp is full of spoiled rich kids, obnoxious counselors wanting Shelby to talk about her feelings, and a totally inhumane “no cell phones” policy.

Things start looking up, though, when Shelby meets fellow camper (and son of a rock star) Austin Bridges III. But soon she realizes there’s more to Austin than crush material—his family has a dark secret, and he wants Shelby’s help guarding it. Shelby knows that bad boys get her into trouble…but who is she to turn her back on a guy in need, especially such a good-looking one?

Heather Davis’s debut novel mixes together irresistible characters, a pesky full moon, and a delicious taste of the supernatural.

my thoughts:

So this is my first ARC  book review. YAY! I have to say i wasn't disappointed.Never Cry Werewolf was good and easy to read, Heather was on the right track when she wrote it. I do feel like we need more YA books about werewolves, but vampires never get old. I felt like Never Cry Werewolf  ended to soon. I loved the storyline i just wanted to know more about the characters.

The characters were lacking a little bit of depth. Shelby and Austin's relationship was a little rushed and it didn't go deep enough. The characters were likable.Shelby is cute and hilarious. Austin is the HOT Londoner, son of a rock star with a cute accent. At the last two chapters of the book, i got to know Shelby more. I was kind of bummed out because i felt like the ending as far as the character development goes, should have been the beginning. So that's why i felt it ended to soon.

But other than that, I like Heather's writing. It was cute and funny, short and sweet. Sometimes there was some predictable moments, but  it was entertaining enough to keep me reading. I'm all for Heather, if she makes a sequel.

Book Review: Tithe

Welcome to the realm of very scary faeries!

Title: Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale
Author: Holly Black
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
ISBN:9780689867040
Publication Date: March 2004
Ages: Young Adult
Pages:336

synopsis

Sixteen-year-old Kaye Fierch is not human, but she doesn't know it. Sure, she knows she's interacted with faeries since she was little--but she never imagined she was one of them, her blond Asian human appearance only a magically crafted cover-up for her true, green-skinned pixie self. First-time author Holly Black explores Kaye's self-discovery and dual worlds in her riveting, suspenseful novel Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale.

The novel begins in a bar in Philly, where Kaye's alcoholic rock-singer mother's boyfriend tries to kill her. For their own safety, mother and daughter quickly move back to grandma's on the New Jersey shore where Kaye grew up. This ugly turn of events was all rigged by the Faerie world, as it turns out, a world Black describes in deliciously vivid, if rather overblown, detail. Kaye, a drinking, smoking, foul-mouthed high school dropout in the land of mortals, soon finds herself embroiled--as a human sacrifice, no less--in a battle between Faerieland's Seelie and more malevolent Unseelie courts. The beautiful, mysterious knight Roiben, torn between worlds himself, falls in love with Kaye--the brave, clever changeling--against his better judgment. Throughout the electrifying journey to the horrific underworld of this modern faerie fantasy, teen readers will relate to a hard-luck tough girl who feels alienated, discovers her best qualities in the worst of circumstances, and finally finds a place between worlds where she can feel at home.

There's been mixed reviews on Tithe, but i have to say I LOVED IT. Holly black is an awesome writer. This book is dark and creepy, it is not a "happy, happy, joy, joy book(Ren and Skimpy quote love them)" and Kaye does smoke and drink in this book even though she is 17 years old(people didn't like that) i think that puts more of an edge to the book, showing that this story is somewhat i guess haunted/dark. I was up reading it all night. These fairies ARE NOT like Tinker bell fairies, although i did love the Tinker Bell movie lo.

anyways :D

Tithe is just so interesting and exciting i just couldn't put it down. I loved everything about it. I'm always looking for more fairies books, Tithe is definitely my favorite.

Fans of Cassandra Clare!!! READ THIS!!

Anyone else a fan of Cassandra Clare's bestselling series, The Mortal Instruments? I know i am. I just started the series. To those of you who have read the series and is a BIG fan of Cassandra Clare should probably know about this but if you don't here's the awesome news!OMG there's is going to be a fourth book in the Mortal Instruments series.Cassandra Clare is publishing a book, called City of Fallen Angels, that is a follow-up of sorts to City of Glass. HELL YEAH!!

For all of you Jace/Clary fans. The book is going to mainly be about Simon, though his Shadowhunter friends (like Jace and Clary), will be making appearances. I don't know about you guys, but I loved Simon as a character , he's cute and funny, so I'm really excited to read about where his story goes next. But first i have to read City of Ashes.

In addition to that great news, the film rights to the series have been optioned by Unique Features. While this doesn't absolutely guarantee that a movie will be made, there seems to be a pretty good chance.

For more information, check out the author's website, which is available here.

New to the series? Check out my review, posted here.

And it only gets BETTER: not only is Cassandra Clare make a Fourth book in the The Mortal Instruments, shes also working on a new series The Infernal Devices, this series is the prequel of the The Mortal Instruments. So be watching out for Cassandra Clare because she is on a roll. I'm super excited, Cassandra Clare is one of my favorite Authors.

P.S
I tell you guys some more news tomorrow on some awesome authors! Enjoy :D

Book Review: Vampire Diaires:The Awakening And Struggle

Title: Vampire Diaries: The Awakening And Struggle
Author: L.J. Smith
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
Pub. Date: June 2007
ISBN-13:   9780061140976
Age Range:    Young Adult
512pp
Series:    Vampire Diaries Series

synopsis

Elena: the golden girl, the leader, the one who can have any boy she wants.

Stefan: brooding and mysterious, he seems to be the only one who can resist Elena, even as he struggles to protect her from the horrors that haunt his past.

Damon: sexy, dangerous, and driven by an urge for revenge against Stefan, the brother who betrayed him. Determined to have Elena, he'd kill to possess her.

Collected here in one volume for the first time, volumes one and two of The Vampire Diaries, the tale of two vampire brothers and the beautiful girl torn between them.

my review

After reading the twilight series, i was hooked on vampires. This is one of those books you either love or hate, I loved it.L.J Smith is awesome.

This book was so exciting, i was up all night reading it. it left me wanting more. Where Elena lives it a pretty small town.Elena is the the barbie doll of the book, Stefan obviously likes her. But he does the whole Edward thing(we should be friends speech). So when Stefan comes to town everybody wants to know him. Then there's the "evil" but lovable, and cute Damon, Stefan's older brother. So its a big LOVE Triangle no its a square, o.k LOVE SQUARE because of Elena's ex- Matt. Then there's a murderer in town, who comes when Stefan arrived at Church Fells. So who do they blame?

Vampire Diaries is fill up romance, mystery, and suspense. Definitely reading the next one. I recommend it for teens who love vampires, especially twilighters.

Book Review: Ink Exchange

Title: Ink Exchange

synopsis

Unbeknownst to mortals, a power struggle is unfolding in a world of shadows and danger. After centuries of stability, the balance among the Faery Courts has altered, and Irial, ruler of the Dark Court, is battling to hold his rebellious and newly vulnerable fey together. If he fails, bloodshed and brutality will follow.

Seventeen-year-old Leslie knows nothing of faeries or their intrigues. When she is attracted to an eerily beautiful tattoo of eyes and wings, all she knows is that she has to have it, convinced it is a tangible symbol of changes she desperately craves for her own life.

The tattoo does bring changes; not the kind Leslie has dreamed of, but sinister, compelling changes that are more than symbolic. Those changes will bind Leslie and Irial together, drawing Leslie deeper and deeper into the faery world, unable to resist its allures, and helpless to withstand its perils. . . .

my review

Will Niall have Les or will he have to watch from the sidelines and be loyal to his King Irial.

I read this one before Wicked Lovely(oops), But i did read Wicked Lovely After it. I guess you don't really have to read the first one because Ash and Keenan aren't in it that much. It mainly about Les and The Dark King Irial. Ink Exchange is just the companion to wicked lovely. But i think you should read Wicked Lovely first just so you can see how Keenan and Ash are doing.

Les is Ash's friend.Les wants to get a tattoo. Her family isn't really picture perfect. Her brother is a druggie she was raped by one of his dealers. Its just the dark side of things. She meets Niall(who is the is it the left hand man or the right hand man..... ( idk) of Irial and also friends with Keenan) and Irial who is drop dead gorgeous and dangerous anyways I felt the chemistry with Les and Niall.Les gets her tattoo and there is a catch, she picked the Dark Kings tattoo. They are linked together. Les and Irial's relationship to me is like a withering flower.Yet again it didn't end like how i wanted it 2.

I loved the Dark King and Niall. The story line was awesome but sad. Leslie being tied to The dark king by a tattoo, really cool( just the having Irial part,i'm thinking about getting a tattoo but IDK). It was a whole new side of fairies, the dark and creepy kind. I wonder how things will play out in the next book....

Book Review: Evernight

Title:Evernight (Evernight, Book 1)
Author: Claudia Gray
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
Pub. Date: February 2009
ISBN-13: 9780061284441
Age Range: 12 and up
352pp

synopsis

Bianca wants to escape. She's been uprooted from her small hometown and enrolled at Evernight Academy, an eerie Gothic boarding school where the students are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn't fit in. Then she meets Lucas. He's not the "Evernight type" either, and he likes it that way. Lucas ignores the rules, stands up to the snobs, and warns Bianca to be careful--even when it comes to caring about him. ""I couldn't stand it if they took it out on you,"" he tells Bianca, ""and eventually they would."" But the connection between Bianca and Lucas can't be denied. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart . . . and to make Bianca question everything she's ever believed.

i really liked this book it was so ummmm...it had an elegance to it(if that makes any sense)I loved the characters, cross star lovers, and the vampires (of course). the story was beautifully written. Favorite character is Lucas.

Bianca seems normal, school is starting she worried about fitting in. Her parents are her biggest supporters, they are even her teachers at school. So she runs away, well she attempts to and falls in the arms of the hottie Lucas. Who persuades her with "schools not all that bad". I was like wow this is pretty normal, where the vampires? until don don duh... she sees all the pretty students(vampires i tell you!!) and your occasional outsiders/newbies(humans), Bianca is the outsider/newbie. She becomes Lucas' friend. They take weird classes like i guess it is some modern technology class, where the OLD OLD vampires learn about how to use modern things, it was funny because one of them was like " what is this, how do you use this?" it was a microwave lol.

Then it turns into your normal vampire book, vampires drink humans blood. In Evernight there is humans and vampires in the school. i guess you can use your *imagine*(but say it like sponge bob)and guess what happens next. Then Evernight takes a surprising turn.

It did leave me on a Big cliff hanger, whats gonna happen to Bianca and Lucas?........ Gotta read Stargazer to find out.

Most sixteen-year-olds have friends. Aden Stone has four human souls living inside him:

One can time-travel.
One can raise the dead.
One can tell the future.
And one can possess another human.

With no other family and a life spent in and out of institutions, Aden and the souls have become friends. But now, they’re causing him all kinds of trouble.

Like, he’ll blink and suddenly he’s a younger Aden, reliving the past. One wrong move, and he’ll change the future. Or, he’ll walk past a total stranger and know how and when she’s going to die.

He’s so over it. All he wants is peace.

And then he meets a girl who quiets the voices. Well, for as long as he’s with her. Why? Mary Ann Gray is his total opposite. He’s a loner; she has friends. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks; she tries to make everyone happy. And while he attracts the paranormal, she repels it. For her sake, he should stay away. But it’s too late. . .

Somehow, they share an inexplicable bond of friendship. A bond about to be tested by a werewolf shape-shifter who wants Mary Ann for his own and a vampire princess Aden can’t resist. The Forest of Hands and Teeth

The Forest of Hands and Teeth
by Carrie Jones

In Mary's world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth.

But, slowly, Mary's truths are failing her. She's learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future - between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?

Once Dead, Twice Shy (Madison Avery, Book 1)

Once Dead, Twice Shy
by Kim Harrison

My name is Madison Avery, and I'm here to tell you that there's more out there than you can see, hear, or touch. Because I'm there. Seeing it. Touching it. Living it.

Madison's prom was killer -- literally. For some reason she's been targeted by a dark reaper -- yeah, that kind of reaper -- intent on getting rid of her, body and soul. But before the reaper could finish the job, Madison was able to snag his strange, glowing amulet and get away.

Now she's stuck on Earth -- dead but not gone. Somehow the amulet gives her the illusion of a body, allowing her to toe the line between life and death. She still doesn't know why the dark reaper is after her, but she's not about to just sit around and let fate take its course.

With a little ingenuity, some light-bending, and the help of a light reaper (one of the good guys! Maybe . . . ), her cute crush, and oh yeah, her guardian angel, Madison's ready to take control of her own destiny once and for all, before it takes control of her.

Well, if she believed in that stuff.

Strange Angels (Strange Angels #1)

Strange Angels
by Lili St. Crow

Dad? Zombie.
Mom? Long gone.
Me? Well, that's the scary part.

The Real World is a frightening place. Just ask sixteen-year-old orphan Dru Anderson, a tough girl who has taken down her fair share of bad guys. She's armed, dangerous, and ready to kill first and ask questions later. So it's gonna take her a while to figure out who she can trust . . .

Dru Anderson has been 'strange' for as long as she can remember, travelling from town to town with her father to hunt the things that go bump in the night. It's a weird life, but a good one – until it all explodes in an icy, broken-down Dakota town, when a hungry zombie busts through her kitchen door. Alone, terrified, and trapped, Dru's going to need every inch of her wit and training to stay alive. The monsters have decided to hunt back – and this time, Dru's on their menu. Chances of survival? Slim to none.

If she can't last until sunup, it's game over . . .

Book Review: City of Bones (Mortal Instruments #1)

Title: City Of Bones(immortal Instrument,#1)

Clary lives in in a world where everything is normal(or is it) until she witnesses a murder by 3 teens (with weird rune markings on there arms) that know one can see. They tell her they killed a demon and not some normal teen. Clary was pretty freaked out about it but goes home and sees her mom with packing saying there going on a summer vacation. Clary gets mad and leaves with her BFF Simon to this poetry lounge. While there she sees the mysterious guy that killed the demon(who's name is jace). he leaves and she follows him out. Then she gets a phone call from her mom telling her to not come home, that he's come back for her, and tell luke its Valentine. Obviously Clary doesn't listen and take Jaces demon sense thinking its a cell phoneand goes home. The Adventure begins........

I Love this book, there's a little love triangle going on aww.. Clary gets involve in that Dark fantasy world.Uncovers some of her moms secrets that weren't suppose to be found out, kill some monsters, and lets call it a day.

I quickly fell in love with every character. Jace was probably my favorite. He was cool, sexy, and a bad boy..(who doesn't like a little bad boy right?).but he was emotional and showed his emotions only to Clary. And Clary was a character that I actually can relate to and enjoy reading about. Alec...how do I start? This boy is a charmer. He's such a sad person to think about, hiding such a huge secret..He's probably the most complicated character in the trilogy. Simon is just so funny and cute.Every character helped in the story and added to the thrill.

I love how i could never predict whats going to happen next. Every chapter was exiting, i was always like "OMG" or "what".I was a little disappointed in the end when it came to Clary and Jace's relationship, but i kind of looked for some spoilers to see if it was true. happy that its not YAY. Can't wait to read City Of Ashes!!!

Book Review: Wicked Lovely

Title: Wicked Lovely
Author: Melissa Marr
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
Pub. Date: June 2007
ISBN-13: 9780061214653
Age Range: Young Adult
336pp
SYNOPSIS

Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.

Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in the mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty-especially if they learn of her Sight-and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.

Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.

Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.

Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.

But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King, who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. His is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost-regardless of her plans or desires.

Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; everything.

Faery intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr's stunning twenty-first-century faery tale.

MY REVIEW

I love fairies, it was dark and fun. Melissa Marr's fairies are unpredictable. I love her fairies.Ash wants a normal life, she was taught to not draw any attention to herself and to fear fairies, basically. Ash can see them, she the sight. They can't know that she can see them until a Fairy king steps into the picture.

Keenan is The Summer King who is looking for His Queen(aww...not with this story), he sets his eyes on Ash. Hoping for her to be the one. He has fallen in love many times with potential Queens, but they never pasted the "test". They were turned into either Winter or Summer girls in the process. The Summer Court is weak and Keenan must find a way to strengthen his court. The winter Court has been in control until now. Will Keenan have Ash or will she reject him.....?Will Ash pass the test and be Summer Queen or fail and be a summer/winter girl like the others?

It was a great book but my heart was torn between Seth and Keenan. I'm not gonna lie i want Ash with Keenan. But i don't know if he just wants a stronger court or if he really loves Ash. I can't see how Seth will fit in the Fairy realm. But i'll have to wait and see.
